5 /5 Jordan Scherpe-Lencioni: We love being a YMCA Family! Our kids have attended both ELA at Sandwich and Plano, as well as participated in swim lessons, mini gymnastics, and soccer. All of the programs are top notch, and the teachers are amazing. They also put on great programs for the community like touch a truck events, a Halloween carnival and more! We have really felt a sense of community with everyone we encounter through the Y, and are thankful to have them as a part of our village!

1 /5 Alma Gallegos: I am extremely disappointed to hear that Michelle is no longer at the Y. She was the reason it felt like a second home to me. Michelle had a way of making everyone feel welcome, supported, and capable of reaching their goals. She genuinely cared about people, and it showed in every single class she taught. I only do the instructor-led classes at the Y, and honestly it’s the only reason I have a membership. Knowing that such a big piece of that experience is now missing really makes me question whether keeping my membership is worth it. The fact that the YMCA could so easily let go of Michelle — someone who truly embodied what the YMCA stands for — is incredibly upsetting. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

1 /5 Dennis Ferguson: I’ve been going to the Y for quite awhile now. I take 8-9 classes a week and love them and the instructors are AMAZING. I found out that one of the best instructors of 15+ years is no longer there ! WHY ? She has literally helped thousands of people on their get healthy journey . Very disappointed and angry at the upper ups thinking that this is a good idea. How can I feel confident that another, and another may have the same treatment? I know that there is a new CEO…. FIX THIS !!

1 /5 Michael Hemby: Went to swim...was told me and 3 other adults had to share a lane while they had a 6 year old swim team with most of the lanes having one tiny swimmer. When I asked the life guard he said all 4 of us had to share a lane, if the guy in the one and only lap lane available didnt mind. Or maybe we could wait to see when he was finished. When I went to the lobby I was told by the Manager?? That wed all have to share a lane. ? 4 adults in one lane. I just said Id have to find somewhere else to get a membership. I have torn ligaments in my wrist and a bad foot so swimming is pretty much it for me now. So after I said that, not threatening, its just a matter of fact, a few minutes later she came back and said theyd open a lane for us. NOW Im the complaining bad guy. I dont want to be that guy. I just want to be able to use my membership. I also dont want to have to complain to use it. I dont like being angry with people. I like being nice and I like to have fun. Its not fun when you cant exercise and you feel like you have to argue to use your paid membership. I especially have to exercise on a regular basis because of my diabetes. Why are there kids scheduled in the afternoon when school is out? When I was a kid, swim lessons were held during the daytime in the summer. Adults work all day and the afternoon/early evening is all we have and they have swim lessons and swim team scheduled then. It makes no sense to me. It is very frustrating. Only after I said Id have to find somewhere else to swim did they try to accommodate us. I didnt say it as a threat or to be rude. It is just a matter of fact. If I have to cancel my membership its only because I have a family membership that I cant use, its not being said to be mean.

1 /5 Chelsea Hill: So sad that the new CEO Chris Shue fired our beloved fitness instructors Michelle! We would love an explanation as to why she was let go, but in Illinois he doesn’t have to give one. She has worked there over a decade and has supported me and so many others in my fitness journey for years now. The negative impact of her not being around is tremendous and nobody could fill her Shues. The Fox Valley FAMILY will not be the same without its valued family member Michelle.
