5 /5 sunset tech: Not sure if its open now. Excellent examlpe of 20th century railroad depot. The C&EI Depot survived abandonment in the 1970s thanks to local preservationists. In 1995, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP #95000632) for its architectural and historical significance as a well-preserved example of Prairie School-influenced rail design and its role in Salems transportation history. Owned privately by Doug and Pam Fontana since the 1990s, it underwent restoration to maintain its original features while adapting for limited commercial use.
