06-2025 Carlyle Lake State Wildlife Management Area in Hight rate 4 location for tourist in Carlyle, IL, USAEldon Hazlet State Recreation Area - Carlyle Kerrie Dewey: Just want to mention first that there is no water hook up here. Besides that down fall this is a good camp ground for families. There are multiple parks, a pool, a small store, and trails for walking or hiking. Showers and restrooms are nice and clean, the water in the showers is nice and hot. Volleyball and basketball courts add to the list of family activities. Please drive slow and be alert, children and their toys or bikes are bond to be anywhere! For $20 a night you really cant ask for more and the lake is beautiful with multiple beaches and boat ramps.
Woodyard Conservation Area - Charleston Paula Vaske: Charleston is blessed to have such a nice hiking area. There are multiple trails for different hiking levels. I wouldnt describe any of the trails being higher than a moderate level. The only criticism I have is that the trails arent always clearly marked. I took the red trail all away around the lake. And although I understood the direction of the trail, there were multiple intersections that I was uncertain of. The trail was very clean and well kept.
Lincoln Douglas Debate Museum - Charleston Jennifer Munoz: We were very excited to visit the Lincoln Douglas, Debate museum and we were not disappointed. The museum is very nicely spread out. It was a self guided tour. It was very clean on the inside and the outside. It was very easy access in and out of the museum, there’s also bathrooms on the outside of the museum. Make sure you look it sits inside of the fairground so that you don’t miss it.
Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site - Lerna Marc Crawford: Very cool place of history to visit if you are in the area. Nice visitor center with a great museum. There is a 14 minute video you can watch before you walk around the property. Some things might be reconstructed, but it is still cool to visit. There were baby sheep there while we visited. It is all free to visit, so it is worth it if you are in the area.
Douglas-Hart Nature Center - Mattoon JOHAN GUZMAN: A nice place in Mattoon to walk and connect a little with nature, if you want tranquility and breathe real peace come to walk in this place
Fox Ridge State Park - Charleston Janna Jae Shaffer: Great place with clear walking trails, lots of activities and not crowded. There are playground areas for children and a camping area. There are picnic tables and grills throughout the park. Great area for fishing or kayaking as well!
Skydeck Chicago - Chicago Liliana Chilpa: If you want to get great photos my suggestion is to arrive around 6.30-7pm so you can catch the sunset. If you are in a rush then the expedited entry is your best option, but if that is not the case i strongly recommend going with the standard experience. They have tons of great displays to learn more about Chicago and the building in general that you cannot miss!
Millennium Park - Daria Kurovskaya: Millennium Park is a perfect mix of city and nature right in downtown Chicago. The skyline views are amazing, with beautiful architecture all around. The Cloud Gate (the Bean) is iconic, fun to see in person and great for photos.
There are lots of walking paths, gardens, and flowers everywhere. It’s a relaxing place to stroll, sit, and take in the surroundings. Whether you’re visiting or live nearby, it’s a great spot to unwind and enjoy a different side of the city.
Riverwalk - Daria Kurovskaya: The Chicago Riverwalk is one of the best ways to experience the city. The views are stunning. It is a perfect mix of river, boats, and jaw-dropping architecture all around.
The whole stretch is full of life, with lots of cafes, bars, and little spots to sit and relax by the water. It’s great for people-watching or just enjoying the atmosphere. The view from the DuSable Bridge is breathtaking, you can see the river curve through the heart of downtown, framed by iconic buildings like the Wrigley and Tribune Towers. Highly recommend!
Clarence F. Buckingham Memorial Fountain - Chicago Abhishek: I visited the Clarence Buckingham Fountain today, and it was an incredible experience! It just reopened after winter, and I was lucky enough to be there for the first day. The atmosphere was fantastic, with a crowd gathered to watch the grand start. The fountain itself is a stunning sight, and the cool breeze made it even more enjoyable. If you’re in Chicago, this is a must-see!
