5 /5 Joshua Bishop: There is something very special, even sacred, about this historic jail. I was moved by the faithfulness and courage of a man willing to give up even his own life for a cause he believed in to the core - to stand by his testimony of Jesus Christ. I visited this site on the 180-year anniversary of the day the prophet Joseph Smith sealed his testimony with his blood in order to satisfy a mob. I was left to ponder, “what do I believe in and love more than life itself?”

5 /5 Ruth: Praise to the man! All that Joseph went through in jail with his brother and friends. Standing in the very room he died in was so surreal and the sister missionaries did a great job of telling the stories. What an amazing experience to be there with my family.

5 /5 Dawn Tejam: This place is full of story and rich in history. A must see and visit historical site. The jail itself is full of stories of faith, bravery, and kindness of the people and family who once lived there. All furnitures and structures are preserved. Each room of the jail house has its story to tell. The missionary guides were awesome and told the story of imprisonment of Joseph Smith and his brother there. I would love to come back and see other sites in this area. Highly recommended place to visit and to learn as well.

5 /5 Michael Hecker - Park Reviewer: I first visited the Carthage Jail in 1982, soon after I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It strengthened my testimony and still today. Visiting Carthage Jail can be sad, because its where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred. But, Im grateful for the opportunity to remember the great lives they lived and the contributions to the salvation of mankind they made. To quote John Taylor, "They lived great..." Im thankful for all of the blessings that I enjoy today because of them. The Church of Jeuss Christ of Latter-day Saints has taken extraordinary care of the site. The missionaries at the site are wonderful and give complimentary tours. The history of the site is well worth a visit.
