It’s very interesting to see the functioning of the trains back then, the communication system, the uniforms, the mail system transportation and everything else. Maurice, our guide, was great. He told us the history of the railroad train system with so much passion and nostalgia, adding his personal experiences of his childhood as grandson and son of the railroad company employees. I do recommend a visit to the Railroad Train Museum in Galesburg!

hissweetgrace: Beautiful little plaza with European style feel Very peaceful and relaxing to sit by the fountain and the history with Abraham Lincoln makes it special. There are some great little restaurants in this small town Downtown by the square is worth a walk through. Hiking 15 minutes away at the state parks. This is definitely an area worth visiting!!

The museum is free, but they accept donations. The special presentations have a small fee, but its worth it plus theres snacks with the presentations.

CherryBomb737: This beautiful 253-acre Dayton Bluffs Reserve has been beautifully restored. The Conservation Foundation purchased the property in 2013 and is leased to the city of Ottawa. The friends of Dayton Bluffs a local volunteer group helps with the continued restoration and management of the preserves natural and historic resources. Please take your garbage with you and keep this a paradise. Leaf it like you found it!

Illinois Waterway Visitors Center - Ottawa

David Mueller: Nice stop if you make it out to Utica or Ottawa, Illinois. Always fun to watch a barge lock through. There is a nice visitor center and several good spots to observe. Clean restrooms. Great view of Starved Rock from this location. Picnic area onsite.

Miscellaneous Muzik: Peck Park was a great place to chill and watch softball. So, if youre watching travel teams or local teams, respect these young athletes and have a good time. My only complaint is that the parking was horrible.
