5 /5 M A: Such a fun place of history! I had no idea there were so many different varieties of barbed wire. Learning about the history is fascinating & the house is really neat. So many different historical items - a mustache cup, handmade elegant clothing, lots of original family history. The staff & volunteers were wonderful as well.

5 /5 Jill Hart: I was pleasantly surprised by this. We have lived in the area a while and I dont think I knew exactly where it was. Its amazing what Glidden did for the town, community and beyond with his invention and dedication. They had "souper Tuesday" and my granddaughter and I sat down with others with great soup, cornbread and fruit. I appreciate their knowledge and hospitality here!

4 /5 Sy Guzman: Been here once but it was closed. I could only walk by the front of the house and garden. Its only a 5-minutes stop, if you deem it worth your time to visit. There are some photos posted on this review section by other people who have visited- and thats about all I saw, too. No interior home photos, just pictures of the outside of the house.

5 /5 815 fishing: The Glidden Homestead and Historical Center is an absolute blast to go to! The history for local barbed wire baron Joseph Glidden is fantastic and seeing the history locked in place is super interesting. There is also a WORKING blacksmith shop open every second and fourth Sunday from June to November where you can see demonstrators work hands-on, forging art out of steel! If you are able to make it out there for opening day of the season you will get the chance to see into THE BARN where “The Winner” barbed wire was invented. Well worth making a visit!

5 /5 Chris Hamer: Interesting place to see what an old hardly changed by the centuries homestead looks like. Plus you get to learn about how barbed wire changed the American farmland.

Cindy Henderson: Part of the GreatWestern trail. Its directly behind a residential area so I cant imagine what those homeowners think for property taxes. Havent walked it enough to measure signage, distance or entry points.

Prairie Park - DeKalb

Brittle Berger: I find this place serene and calming. I use it for a good evening walks and it gets better in winter as it looks more pristine and beautiful due to the snow . Also, it is safe to visit here according to me and it is closer to the university which makes it easier to go.

Burlington Prairie Forest Preserve - Sycamore

Ana Gignosko: Going to give this place another try in the spring! In the winter the trails are very hard to find from the parking lot that is open (by the railroad tracks), especially when it is your first time being there like it was for me. Very soggy after it rains so wear good shoes! Another comment mentioned a vehicle that I have seen at ANOTHER forest preserve, exhibiting the SAME behavior. I adore dogs, but dont appreciate having them jump up on me with their owner nowhere in sight. Really wish people were more considerate, these are shared spaces, not your backyard: please keep your dogs under control and clean up after them.

Afton Forest Preserve - DeKalb

Mason: I love visiting this place regularly, good place to go and think. Its full of some of the most beautiful scenery for a preserve close to town :) sometimes I bring my cat for walks, and she loves it too. I always see some sort of creature I wouldnt normally see, like deer and foxes. Nice place for reading

Prairie Oaks - Kingston

Donald Smith: The vegetation here is very pretty The park looks a lot smaller from the road than it turns out to be. Very basic amenities . There are signs and there is a path. And if you walk half a mile in theres a little picnic area. No bathrooms, no water. Very peaceful and I rarely see people here when I drive by. Neat little spot to stop in for a short hike.

Russell Woods Forest Preserve - Genoa

Carla Taylor: We had a meeting with brunch in one of the shelters, took an hour long excellent guided hike with Ms. Peggy, saw and heard sand hill cranes stalking the wetlands and saw a real log cabin, moved from elsewhere on the Kishwaukee River. We also visited the nature center (great for kids) with stuffed and live native animals, and a tortoise named TJ.

Massey Park - Clinton

Christina Babcock: Good park. A little small but some nice equipment. Kind of close to the road and the equipment days that its for 5 to 12 yr olds. It was not busy while we were there.
