Ray Bard: Great museum with lots of history! The ladies there are very knowledgeable and do a lot of good preserving the history of Perry County, IL. Overall, definitely worth checking out!
Destiny Fisher: Always a great place to take a hike or mushroom hunt. Plenty to do: camping, hiking, picnicking to boating, fishing, and bird watching.
Bowl 899: What a pure joy! An hour long train ride with singing and dancing by volunteer kids from a local dance place. Everyone is so friendly and kind. This is a must do!
Victoria Allen: Simple yet just enough for your daily needs. Has options to camp, and a paved/gravel road throughout that is about 1 mile long with side trails for hiking. Other inclusions: lake with benches, fishing options & horse trails (however I personally dont condone animal abuse or exploitation), playground, 2 locations for bathrooms, trash cans, parking, picnic tables, open areas for yard sports/games, and spots to cook over a fire. Road is closed to vehicles through winter until April 1st, however foot activities and biking is still allowed. Wildlife can include birds, squirrels, deer, etc. Please be kind to them this is their home! Also keep in mind my photos represent the wet & muddy season.
Jenni Wojtowicz: Allerton is always a beautiful place no matter when you go. I would recommend May for peak flowers and fall for beautiful leaves in the wooded areas.
There are a few wheelchair accessible places. Features walking trails both paved and unpaved. Mansion with reflecting pool. Live music during the summer. Popular place for weddings.
The sunken garden, the walled garden, the fu dogs, the sunsinger, the musicians are all treasures that can be found here.
Also, you can stay overnight at the mansion and the groundskeepers cottage, but weve never done that.
DIRTYDAN’s Trains: Incredible place, took a trip for the weekend with a few other friends. Staff super friendly and helpful, genuinely want you to have a great experience. I can’t thank the folks responsible for the operation enough for their efforts, and cannot wait to come back again.
Rebekah Rose: Great secluded camping area. We did the primitive campsite back in November. The campground was nice and flat, and the fire pits are good heavy duty ones too. We did have to hike a bit to find decent firewood tho, but thats camping. Definitely recommend.
