3 /5 John Haney: Its sad that the state did not take care of the area buildings and restaurants or hotels. There are currently work crews in the area so hopefully they will be reopened. The camping areas are very nice and well maintained.

5 /5 Em The Reel Em Angler: Just solo camped here in the Bay Loop while I was on a noodling trip on Rend Lake! Great campground. Ample toilets, showers and pit toilets. Lots of sites right on the lake. Some playgrounds and a bike/walking path. Each site has a picnic table and nice raised fire pit that has a grate. Very nice boat launch and docks. Was pretty quiet and peaceful when I went and camped. Will stay again. Cons: Does not sell firewood. Other local campgrounds do that you can go and purchase from.

5 /5 Thomas Downing: We had a great visit at Wayne Fitzgerald State Park. The campsites are huge compared to other campgrounds in the area. Our host was fantastic and resolved a problem where a new arrival stole our reserved campsite. We were camping with a motorhome and needed to go into town. The interlopers took our reservation form off the clip board and parked in our spot. They also ignored the fact that we left our camp chairs with bundles of firewood. The host checked his records and confirmed that we had paid for 10 days, then went down to talk to these people. The interlopers claimed that that it looked like our reservation expired and pulled the receipt from the post. The host knew this wasn’t true, because he regularly checks the posts everyday and takes down any expired receipts before new arrivals check in. The interlopers left without any fuss after talking to our host. Not all campgrounds are run this well. This is a beautiful natural area with lots of wild life.

Micheal Foster: Was neat, could see the prison in the distance from a lookout, theres a small park, ice cream shop, and some cool picture opportunities. I would say that there could probably be a lot more cool things put in this area to see, and it could be maintained a little better. A neat little stop if you are in the area, but I wouldnt drive more than an hour just to see it.

Steven McHugh: Such a great place to enjoy the beauty of nature!! Fishing, walking and any outdoor forest adventure the mind can think of right of the beaten path of busy Shorewood/Joliet.........The deer are gorgeous to view and my family will be going at least once a week to enjoy the pristine landscape and we thank the park district and local government for doing such a great job keeping the property safe and clean!!! Just take a turn down the street, park and enjoy simple life for a moment or two!!

C G112: Very cool to be taken back in time. The experience was very worth the 1 hrs drive. Ironically, the west cell house was open, which was the gallery I worked. The 1 gallery in the house was open for viewing. I worked that gallery on many assignments. Thank you for the fulfilling experience! I enjoyed it, the chaperones were in contact with us most the way through and were very helpful.

Manuel Girisch: Great open air museum with a lot of information. Entrance is free, parking also. Sadly some idiots ruined some of the information-plates. But its kind of a magic-historical place with a wonderful athmosphäre.

Emily Stranski: Neat "ruins" of an era past. I really enjoyed the signage posted along the way that told some of the history of the area and the workers that one called this place home.

Will Handley: Chill historic canal downtown vibe. Lots of early American industrial history throughout the area. Great restaurants and pubs. Free municipal Parking lots large enough for any size rig or RV. Full bars of Verizon 4G LTE Roaming. Leashed dogs are welcome along all the canal trails.
