DeSoto House Hotel - Galena (IL)

5 /5 John Tangen: Love the DeSoto House Hotel. Historic hotel which has kept alot of its charm - still using brass keys. One of the best places to stay in town. Perfect location to walk main street and experience Galena, with parking garage for guests (this is the value - parking and transportation are challenging otherwise). They surprised us with champagne and heart rose set up on the bed. Breakfast buffet was great. Love this hotel and will definitely stay next time, when we escape Chicago.

5 /5 Anne - marie Saunders: We have put this hotel on our gonna-go-to list. Car trouble brought us here. We only got to stay 1 night but the rooms were old-fashioned enough to catch the interest. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There were enough towels for showers the next morning and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. Unfortunately, thats all we got around to. Our car was fixed. We had to leave. But we are coming back.

The location on Main Street couldnt be more perfect, the included parking is a huge bonus, and the whole place is full of history and charm. Our room was clean and comfortable, the staff were warm and genuinely helpful, and the on-site restaurants and bar made it easy to relax without ever leaving the building. Id absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone wanting the full Galena experience.

As the oldest operating hotel in Illinois, it carries so much character and history, from the architecture to the decor that makes you feel like youre part of Galenas past. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and you could sense the stories the walls could tell. While it is an older hotel, thats part of the appeal, creaky floors, high ceilings, and antique touches everywhere add to the authentic experience. Everything is well maintained, and the staff make you feel comfortable and taken care of. If you are looking for a modern, sleek stay, this may not be your style. But if you appreciate history, charm, and a truly unique experience, the DeSoto is the perfect place to stay while exploring the historic town of beautiful Galena.
