2 /5 Rob Mason: My wife and I have frequently visited the restaurant and ordered from the menu. The food was good and has always been consistent. Based on past experience we decided to try the seafood buffet when we visited there recently. We were sadly disappointed.
First, I will state that the service was great. Our server was attentive and did a wonderful job. If I were able to rate them separately it would be a 4.5. The cheesy chicken tortilla soup was the other standout. It has always been a favorite at lunchtime and still rated a solid 4.
On the other hand, the "seafood" buffet left a great deal to be desired. Seafood consisted of catfish, popcorn shrimp, and sauteed shrimp. There was also fried chicken. The buffet was poorly stocked even though it was early in the evening (prior to 7 pm)and the buffet table did not keep the food properly warm. The popcorn shrimp was overcooked, but the coating wasnt crisp. It seemed that it was cooked and then stored under a heat lamp until it was put on the buffet. The other items on the buffet appear to have been handled in a similar manner. The fried chicken, normally a favorite of mine, was terribly dry and the coating lacked any real flavor.
As for the sides that we tried, the steamed broccoli was mushy and had no flavor. The breaded cauliflower, when it was fresh, wasnt bad.
I really hope that this was a fluke as Ive always enjoyed their breakfasts, soup and salad bar, and sandwiches at the restaurant. In fact, the table next to us ordered a catfish sandwich that looked amazing. For the time being we will stick with menu items and hope that they find ways to address the issues with their buffet.
