3 /5 Thomas Ivanoff: I pulled a travel trailer to this business asking for an estimate to repair a corner of the trailer. It has an exterior made of fibreglass so I know it is expensive to repair. The area was about 6 inches by 3 inches. With fibreglass you may be needing to repair well beyond the Crack site. They quoted me 4000 dollars and I thanked them for the estimate and moved on. The materials required to fix it is in the neighborhood of 200 dollars. Yes labor would include prep and paint but I cannot believe it should cost that much. I will fix it myselfsince we are not even close to what I believe to be reasonable. But remember this is me talking and I cannot in any way speak of the quality of work done. Mike did tell me everything he was estimating that needed to be done but I believe it was a bit exaggerated for me. I appreciate him giving me an estimate that he honestly felt was right. I just do not agree....
As an update, I finished the repair myself. The professional may have given me a better finish but I am completely Happy with the results. Total cost was around $250.
That included the fiberglass repair kit with fibreglass cloth, grinding wheel, sandpaper supplies, body putty, glaze, finish sanding paper, new aluminum corner strap, 2 part catalyst paint, painters tape. Buffing compound, and Polishing compound with buffing pads.
It was time-consuming doing a little each day at an hour or so each time. I would say maybe 10 hours total. Yes, it was intimidating each step of the way but slow and steady melted the stress down each step of the work. I was so impressed with the results when I was done and I am positive I fixed the panel and have zero thoughts of any failure of my work. So, if the price is too high, look up you tube repairs and give it a try. The cost cannot be worse if you fail and you still learned trying. You can always shop around too, I just ran out of time and needed it done. Remember, your trailer insurance may cover an item like this that was an accident. I just forgot to submit it to my insurance when it happened but I would have been upset by the cost if I had gone that direction.
