Les: What a beautiful home. Very well preserved. I grew up in the area and was always fascinated with this place. Finally after 6 decades I got a chance to visit. The caretaker/tour guide was very knowledgeable and thorough about the life and times of living in this wonderful home. I want to thank everyone involved for keeping this time capsule preserved and open. I hope to return one day to visit again.
GRAMS: Small playground that is tight fit for adults to play with kiddos. Great walking/biking path that goes on a way. Porta Johns available and clean.
NagaSai Chowdary: I recently visited Starved Rock State Park, and it was an incredible experience! The trek was around 4 miles and absolutely worth it. The trails were well-marked and took us through a variety of beautiful canyons, each with its own unique charm. From lush greenery to towering rock formations, the scenery was stunning at every turn.
One of the highlights was definitely the lake — peaceful, scenic, and a great spot to take a break and enjoy nature. The entire hike offered a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation, making it ideal for both first-time visitors and seasoned hikers.
Whether youre into hiking, photography, or just looking for a fun day out with friends, this park has something for everyone. It’s clean, well-maintained, and offers plenty of spots to stop, take pictures, or simply soak in the beauty around you. Starved Rock is definitely a must-visit if youre in Illinois — already looking forward to going back!
Cort Richards: I called the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society to ask if they had any info on my GGG Grandparents, Henry Fraser and Lucinda Steward - Fraser. The man who answered the phone was extremely interested in my plight and went the extra mile to find what info he could on the Fraser Family in Genessee Township, Coleta and Sterling. He found the graves of my GGG Grandparents and a number of their children in the big Sterling Graveyard. I was very thankful and think they are extremely nice and helpful. Robert Berry: Celebrated Juneteenth there. It was very nice. The park is well located, clean and attractive. Plenty of shade on hot sunny days. Papa Toms serving BBQ and several folks giving away bottles of water. Super nice people celebrating freedom for all.
Troy Layne: Always enjoy time playing with the kids in this special wooden fort/playground. Nice place to turn the kids loose & not worry about them running off. Splinters can be a problem but the wood structures are reasonably well maintained.
Judy Zimmerman: Great place for outdoor theater or concert. It was bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. There were a few picnic table and benches to sit at. Plenty of parking around this beautiful park. Close to restaurants and downtown businesses which you could walk to very easily. Saw people walking their dogs in the park.
Erik Czerwin: What a great experience! My wife and I loved learning about Owen Lovejoy, his family, and everything they worked for. The tour guides were super friendly and knowledgeable. Were excited to bring the whole family to learn about the history of their town.
