I’ve watched the church change and grow, but what has stayed the same is the immediate sense of welcoming felt each time I enter the building. Pastor Colin has a gift for creating a space that all feel welcome no matter who you are. He helps you feel supported in your faith journey and his sermons are spiritually enriching as well as providing practical guidance for daily life. The music is a beautiful blend of contemporary and traditional that work seamlessly together to help create a wonderful atmosphere, all by accomplished musicians. St. Mark’s also has a strong community focus of outreach. From bake sales to chili suppers and more, raising funds to help local non-profits is a year around effort at St. Mark’s, and a wonderful way to get involved. The children’s ministry is growing as well. With a dedicated Sunday School teacher, and Pastor Colin leading youth ministry for the older kids, St. Mark’s provides a safe and fun environment for all children. Since Covid, St. Mark’s has expanded to include Live Stream Sunday Service. Whether you’re traveling and want to tune in while away, to anyone recovering from something that doesn’t allow for attending in person, to those that want to experience what St. Mark’s is all about from the comfort of your own home, you can tune in every Sunday at 10:00 am CST! If you’ve read this far, congratulations! It’s a long review, but wanted to share my honest thoughts and try to include some of the many facets that make up this church and its people. If you’re new to the area, or just looking for someplace new to continue your faith journey, I highly recommend St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan. You might just be glad you did!
