Neil President I love this church! I happen to be one of the worship leaders but I can remember my first time walking into Vertical Encounter church! There was so much joy and sincerity from the moment I entered the parking lot until the moment that I left. It feels warm and inviting. Like family!! Janet Sanborn We love the long time pastor and his family that have served our community for many years. We recently had a Celebration of Life for our mother that previously attended this church and we could not have been happier with the beautiful memorial service that they helped us create. We enjoyed planning with such a wonderful pastor and his family. They really went above and beyond to make this difficult time extra special. M Neely This gorgeous old stone church has beautiful stained glass and an awesome pipe organ. They have two Episcopal services each Sunday - Rite 1 at 7:30 am, and the modern Rite 2 at 9 am, along with a service in Espanol at 11:00. In addition, the church rents its hall for events. , Eldercare, Clean Power Lake County, Waukegan to College, and the Undercroft Gallery are headquartered in the building. Parking is free, and an elevator is installed.

Barbara Peterson I go to this church. Its an all inclusive church. Open to all who want to come. The first Saturday of the month we have a clothes give away (except this Oct, 2022. Its the second Saturday). Next summer were starting a community garden. We try to do all that we can for the community.

Susan Baehr I’ve been part of St. Mark’s church community for many years. I’ve watched the church change and grow, but what has stayed the same is the immediate sense of welcoming felt each time I enter the building. Pastor Colin has a gift for creating a space that all feel welcome no matter who you are. He helps you feel supported in your faith journey and his sermons are spiritually enriching as well as providing practical guidance for daily life. The music is a beautiful blend of contemporary and traditional that work seamlessly together to help create a wonderful atmosphere, all by accomplished musicians. St. Mark’s also has a strong community focus of outreach. From bake sales to chili suppers and more, raising funds to help local non-profits is a year around effort at St. Mark’s, and a wonderful way to get involved. The children’s ministry is growing as well. With a dedicated Sunday School teacher, and Pastor Colin leading youth ministry for the older kids, St. Mark’s provides a safe and fun environment for all children. Since Covid, St. Mark’s has expanded to include Live Stream Sunday Service. Whether you’re traveling and want to tune in while away, to anyone recovering from something that doesn’t allow for attending in person, to those that want to experience what St. Mark’s is all about from the comfort of your own home, you can tune in every Sunday at 10:00 am CST! If you’ve read this far, congratulations! It’s a long review, but wanted to share my honest thoughts and try to include some of the many facets that make up this church and its people. If you’re new to the area, or just looking for someplace new to continue your faith journey, I highly recommend St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Waukegan. You might just be glad you did!
