  • Old St. Patricks Catholic Church - Chicago
Sarah Doyel Stadtherr: We were so glad to make a visit to this vibrant Parish. A gentleman showed us where the elevator was and made sure we got to the sanctuary. (He also wished us goodbye.) The sanctuary was truly beautiful and I needed more time to visit but we had to get to Union station. You can tell the health of a church by the size of the childrens group, this one is thriving. Music was a mix of traditional and contemporary and I was told they even have pros in the choir. DO go visit them!

Its most striking feature is the magnificent woodwork ceiling, with intricate carvings and ribbed vaulting that create a sense of grandeur and reverence. The warm tones of the wood contrast beautifully with the stained glass, enhancing the cathedral’s serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere. The architecture is absolutely stunning and mesmerizing—its hard not to be captivated by the beauty of the building. Despite being in the middle of bustling downtown, the church offers a sense of peace and tranquility. It feels like a calm oasis amidst the chaos, a perfect place for reflection and solace.

The building is a beautiful, historical landmark and the parishioners make everyone feel welcome. God is present in this church.
