2 /5 John Matschke: Im a Black Card member whos been in gyms 20+ years without a single problem...until recently. Let me start by saying that I support Planets business model and Ive been very grateful to use my black card at locations all over the country, so please dont let this discourage you from joining other Planet Fitness locations. As some of the other reviews have mentioned, the staff but more specifically the management at this location seems to pick and choose customers to start a vendetta with. Ive been approached by management twice, several months apart, while stretching on the floor in the stretching area. I always grab two mats, find a corner and sit down to do a series of stretches. Apparently this is a major problem. I was approached by the manager, told Im not allowed to do my stretches without wearing closed toed shoes while Im literally sitting on mats on top of the floormat stretching. Are you supposed to do yoga with shoes on? No, you will hurt yourself. The manager then told me that customers had complained about my small gym bag I literally wedged into the corner next to me. I asked who complained then the manager changed her story and said "Well, it wasnt complaints they were just inquiring about your carrying your bag." I was then escorted out of the gym, but not before another patron paused his workout to talk to me and tell me to "Shake it off. Keep your chin up." I felt humiliated and made to be a problem by the same person in charge of solving them. I dont know who could have possibly complained because I was there 15 minutes and essentially hiding behind the halfwall in the corner alone. This was the second instance like this. Recently when I inquired about this with a different manager I was told in a snark manner that "Theres nothing we can do its corporate policy." Never have I felt so judged and discriminated against in any gym or Planet Fitness as I have at this Belvidere location on multiple occasions from multiple staff. The only reason this review is two stars instead of one is because most of the employees are nice...just not most of the ones in charge. I highly recommend making the trip to any of Rockfords multiple locations.
