Old Town Auto Service - Danville
C: I came here because I needed some urgent repairs and couldn’t make it to my usual place during the work week. The reviews looked trustworthy, suggesting that there are good, honest people working here. So I was a bit surprised when I got the bill: $100 for an inspection—that part is fine and to be expected—but then $320 to replace just one spark plug… afterwards the owner told me I should replace the other two at a future visit and provided me with a quote for recommended tune-up service. Today I went to my usual repair shop in the city and they replaced the remaining two spark plugs and did my oil change for $238. I’m not super knowledgeable on car stuff so it feels like Old Town took advantage of this knowing they could get away with it. And I’m not one to contest prices because I was raised better than that. I just have a hard time seeing how others found this shop to be super fair with their prices compared to others when Old Town quoted me like $160 to replace cabin and engine filters. I googled and saw that this is something I can easily change myself so I bought the parts on Amazon for like twenty bucks and did it myself in less than 5 min after watching a YouTube video. I get that with inflation everything is more expensive now and businesses need to charge what they need to cover costs. But I go to my regular shop in a nice neighborhood of San Francisco—arguably just as expensive of an area as Danville—and was not charged anything like this… so I’m a bit confused why all the local Danville residents rave about this place for its fair prices and great service. I’m starting to think they don’t like gay people in this town lol.

Service Department - Courtesy Motors - Danville
Samantha Samantha: Avoid the service department. I brought my Jeep patriot in to the dealership specifically because the website claims this place to be a professional, high-quality auto repair service. I’m leaving this place -$160 with the same issue I came in with. They will charge you a 150 diagnosis fee for a 30 minute check of your vehicle and the 150 will not go towards your service if you decide to have it done. I left my car for 5 hours yesterday just for them to call and tell me that they just opened the box and the axel ordered was for a stick shift. I agreed to have them order a new part and woke up this morning to a TEXT MESSAGE saying that the newest part is also not the right fit and that I could pay over 5x the amount for an OEM axel. The sales lot is FULL of jeeps yet it seems that any other mechanic around is just as qualified to work on them. If you buy a jeep from here I would recommend staying away from their service department. These are not “specialist” they just charge $ like they are.
    Matts Auto Inc. - Danville
Taylor Fox: Matt has done work on several of my vehicles. He is very professional and transparent. He always explains what needs to be done and what the options are. It’s reassuring to know a skilled and honest shop that will get the job done and know that it’s going to be done right. I’m glad I got the opportunity to know Matt and experience his expertise and excellent services!
