2 /5 Preston Cobb: My Fiancée and I have completed two transactions at Adornment and Theory, so this review will touch on both.
1. Wedding Bands
My Fiancée and I stopped by to look at wedding bands, and she fell in love with one of the pieces.
Their mens options were also nice, but the pricing for a plain gold band was a bit higher than we were hoping, so we only moved forward with hers.
A couple weeks later the ring was ready. It fit perfectly and looked great.
I will note that the piece my Fiancée picked was made by an independent jeweler out of Canada, so Im unsure if the experience and quality would be the same for all pieces in store.
4.5/5
2. Engagement Ring Resizing
We also inquired about resizing my Fiancée’s engagement ring as it was too large. The staff member asked if wed like to keep the existing sizing beads. They explained that the beads can help keep the engagement ring from turning during wear, so we opted to keep them.
A couple weeks later, the ring was ready and my Fiancée tried it on. We paid for the resize, but the ring was still very loose. The person helping us measured the rings size and suggested that the off-site jewelers may have compensated for the sizing beads during resizing, resulting in the ring fitting larger than we expected. They offered to have the ring resized again to the initial target and we agreed.
A couple more weeks passed and the second resize was complete. We went to pick it up and the ring was better, but still too loose. We were then prompted to pay for the second resizing and I had to explain that it was done to correct a previous error on their side.
When we brought up the ring still being too large, we were told that they would be happy to resize it again, but we would need to pay full price for it, as well as for any subsequent resizes. We decided not to and left rather frustrated. Not because we would have to pay a fee for further resizing, but because we didnt feel like they were very concerned about the fact that the ring still fit poorly after two attempts. It was also disheartening that the wedding band came out perfect the first time, but we were now on attempt three for the engagement ring.
Services are completed off-site by jewelers not present in the store, and I suspect that places a very high burden on the in-store staff members to accurately determine exactly which size a specific ring needs to be for an individuals finger, as well as notate any nuances before the ring is sent off.
It felt like that burden was also shifted onto us a bit, causing the transaction to feel more "Tell us what size you want and well do it. If its wrong, thats on you" rather than "Let us assess your situation and make your ring fit perfectly. If it doesnt, thats on us". I wouldnt say that the former is wrong per se, but its what I would expect from a larger chain, while the latter is what I would hope to get from a local jeweler.
That all being said, the quality of work does appear to be very high.
1/5
Due to our positive experience with the wedding band, I would like to think the resizing issues were a one-off, but Im not sure. If we decide to get her ring resized again, we will likely try to find a store with an in-house jeweler who can see exactly how the ring fits before beginning the work.
The store is very nice and everyone was friendly, but the resizing experience makes it difficult to recommend. We are unlikely to return.
