1 /5 Torey Bielarczyk: My experience here was horrible. The expensive color I paid for is the worst professional color Ive ever received. Every time I look in the mirror, it makes me angry at how this salon ripped me off by telling me that Alicia is an expert colorist. The ridiculously overpriced haircut I received from Evie is literally a mullet. The salon has done nothing to try and make this situation right.
I used to go to this salon when I was in HS and college, in the 1990s. After wearing my hair long for most of my life, at 48, I found myself in a really bad hair space. Id been forced to cut it short due to over processing and damage. I decided to come back to this salon because (while theyve always been extremely pricey) they used to do great work.
I told them my story, how my self-confidence was gone after having my hair cut short and how I needed them to fix the color and modernize the horrible haircut Id gotten at Haircuttery. I told them I want to grow it back out and I was set up with Evie (haircut $80!) and Alicia (color $230!). We did a consultation to discuss my exact goals and a long-term plan for growing my hair back out.
I had the best of hopes that they would deliver. But unfortunately, they did not. Over $500 later (cut + color + Revlon products Evie sold me on +$20 tip for Evie and a $60 tip for Alicia)....I left Octagon 100% disappointed with both the mullet-like cut that Evie gave me and the full-head color I received from Alicia, which was not even close to the color I wanted or that we had discussed. I didnt know what shadow color is or meant. Alicia did not explain anything about it, but added it to my services anyway.
While my color was processing, several foils fell out while Alicia had left me to go pump her breasts. (Shed had a newborn baby recently.) She never replaced those foils or came back to check how the color was processing. I literally sat there with color dripping on my face. No one else working there bothered to even offer me a paper towel.
I have no issue with new mothers being allowed to pump breast milk while working, as long as its done in a professional manner and the services Im paying top dollar to receive are preformed in a professional manner. In this case, I feel she was distracted and did not give proper attention to my processing color. This is why she had to add the shadow color that I didnt ask for and Im currently unhappy with in my hair right now
I literally spent several hours therefore these services and left there feeling totally ripped off and completely disappointed in both the haircut and hair color I received. I should not have tipped them so well because I sent them the wrong message.
I cant see myself going back for any more services here and that disappoints me very much. I had hoped to form a new hair salon relationship. Instead, I feel that I paid top dollar to get taken advantage of and not receive the cut or color services that we had all discussed together. The shadow color is horrible and not at all what I asked for or wanted, neither is the shade of blonde.
Bottomline: this place is super expensive and did not deliver the cut and color services they said they would. I also felt pressured into spending $130 on Revlon products that I really dont need, just because Evie also works for Revlon.
I really had a good vibe at first, before receiving both sub-par services on 1/17/2025. But I believe if I spend $500 at one time at any salon...I should walk out loving my new look and feeling satisfied with the services I received. I should FEEL like a million bucks and not like I was totally ripped off.
