Rons Truck & Auto Repair - Urbana David Garcia: I would not recommend Ronās to anybody. Below is an email I sent the owner, Ashley, in Sept. Despite following up, she hasnāt had the decency or professionalism to respond.
Hello Ashley,
Iām writing aboutĀ theĀ issue concerningĀ the valve cover gasket removal & replacement job doneĀ on my 1998 T-100Ā at Ronās on 6/1/23.
Iāve been in touch with SpenceĀ (ccād here)Ā a few times over the last few weeks regarding the issue, and he has stated that he would pass along myĀ request to please haveĀ you call me.Ā I do understand that life is busy, but it is disappointing that I have not been contacted by youĀ as this has given me the impression that Iām being avoided. ItāsĀ mainlyĀ disappointingĀ consideringĀ the nature of how thisĀ issue aroseĀ (in collaboration withĀ you personally),Ā together with my patronage over the yearsĀ as a longtime customer of Ronās.
Since IāveĀ alreadyĀ shared the videosĀ with Spence andĀ he stated that he has filled you in on the specifics, I willĀ notĀ provideĀ any of those here (but please do let me know if you have any questions).Ā Instead, IĀ willĀ get straight to what I was hoping to discuss with you. I willĀ do my best toĀ keep it short and sweet, but as in life: itās complicated.
First off, Iād like to acknowledge that I am aware of the parts & labor warranty provided to me on theĀ RonāsĀ invoice I received, andĀ also acknowledgeĀ that I contacted Ronās a coupleĀ of monthsĀ after said warrantyĀ had expired.
Now,Ā a request.Ā All Iām asking forĀ isĀ some simple Ā consideration:Ā that you considerĀ the uniqueĀ circumstancesĀ that would lead me toĀ evenĀ ask you to consider the issueĀ outside of the warranty period,Ā andĀ consider theĀ request which I will make clearĀ at the end.
What Iād like you to consider: Iāve been living with an oil leak on that truck since the job was done. Why would I wait so long toĀ contactĀ Ronās about it? Well, moving out-of-stateĀ (which I had shared with you), being forced out of our first homeā¦Ā life happens. Also,Ā itās an oil leak on an old truck: never super high on the priority listĀ with otherĀ lifeĀ things going on, and it wouldāveĀ cost more money to get it looked at by someone else down here, on top of the $1,200 IĀ had alreadyĀ paid Ronās to diagnose and address.Ā I thought, oh well, I tried.Ā In a nutshell,Ā after having you look at it a second time,Ā I took your word for it that the job was done,Ā and that theĀ oilĀ smoke was justĀ residual. After all, youĀ seemedĀ confident about it.Ā I thought it must be something else.Ā I always gave you my trust based on your confidenceĀ andĀ willingness to help.
I only just recently found out due toĀ a busted exhaustĀ pipeĀ flange that theĀ valve cover gasketĀ job was done improperly. Full stop. Yes, improperly.Ā Also,Ā the reviewsĀ on the overall work performed at RonāsĀ thatĀ I got from the Toyota specialistsĀ down hereĀ that said thatĀ the valve cover gasket job was doneĀ improperlyĀ were not glowing.Ā Not a good thing to find out when youāve built up your trust in people.Ā It gave me the sinking feeling in the gutĀ thatĀ you get sometimes. Do you know that feeling?
In any event,Ā in closing, a request. During one of our recent conversations, Spence had asked me whatĀ itĀ was that I wanted done about the issue. I told him that I didnāt knowāthat I donāt have experience with this sort of thing, was thinking that you all probably doĀ given the nature of your business, and was hoping that you might have a solution in mind.Ā I thought, Ashley will have an answer for this.Ā (This was before I saw the warranty information on the invoice.)
Since then, Iāve chewed on it, and believe that the fair thing would beĀ for RonāsĀ to refund me for the labor on the valve cover gasket removal & replacementĀ jobĀ ($280).
Is this something that you would be willing to consider?
Iād really appreciate it if you could let me know either way.
Thank youĀ for your consideration,
David Garcia
P.S. I did originally request that Sam perform the repairsĀ in questionĀ on my vehicle.Ā I was told āsureā initially, but then someone else ended up doing the job.Ā Iām convinced that hadĀ SamĀ done the job, all of this could have been avoided.
